Gary is a 1962 Dundee Community Graduate. He was a 3 Sport Athlete in Football, Basketball and Baseball.

In 2000, Gary was inducted as a football official in the Big Sky College Conference Hall of Fame. He officiated at the college level for 29 years. Gary was married to his high school sweetheart Carol (Richards) Peters in 1964. Gary passed away in Bend, Oregon on June 26, 2020.
